Subject: a really good show, with smoldering HOT spots
a scorching JackStraw opener. A TLEO with notes that reach for the stratosphere. The Althea simply smolders.
But yes, they don't show up for the 2nd Set til EstimatedProphet, and then from Space > onward, they bring it back to their 1stSet intensity. If they gave Black Peter another 30-seconds of Jerry juice, its an all-time version. Jerry's vocals on BlackPeter will have you wondering what time the funeral for Peter is. They send everybody out happy and trippy with a blasting, rousing Sugar Magnolia. It is one smokin' version with Phil right on top of the action.
Despite its couple of flaws, I totally LUV this show.
Btw – there is video of this show. Could hardly believe that it surfaced, one of my best loved shows. But now, trying to reconcile watching those statues on-stage, with the sounds coming out of the speakers is just as much of a mind blower as the music.
as one fan says of the video - 'the Supplication. Jerry, head down, seemingly oblivious to the rest of the band, just tearing it up. Lesh and Weir side by side answering everything thrown at them. A titanic rock and roll tag-team deathmatch.'
